What is USB Charger?

A USB charger is a device that converts power from a wall outlet or other source into low-voltage direct current (DC) to charge electronic devices via a USB cable. It has a port, such as a USB-A or USB-C, for the cable and a plug for the power source, enabling it to transfer both power and data between devices like smartphones, tablets, and laptops.

Functionality: It takes alternating current (AC) from a wall socket and transforms it into direct current (DC) that electronic devices can use.

Connections: It features a USB port (like USB-A or the more modern USB-C) on one side and a plug on the other, connecting to the power source and the device through a USB cable.

Data transfer: USB chargers are built on the Universal Serial Bus (USB) standard, which allows for both power and data to be transferred between connected devices.

Power delivery: Different USB versions and protocols, such as USB Power Delivery (USB PD), allow for higher power outputs to charge larger devices like laptops more quickly.

Compatibility: The trend is moving towards USB-C as a universal standard for many devices, which can handle high power and various functions like video output, according to FSP Technology.
